For 140 characters or less, some Twitter users are making $6,000-plus per sponsored tweet. This is because marketing firm IZEA has launched “Sponsored Tweets,” a network connecting advertisers with Twitter users who want to use their social networking status to make money.
Company CEO Ted Murphy has been quoted as saying,”If you look at the amount of self-promotion, company promotion and advertising promotion that is going on Twitter, it’s ridiculous. The only thing that we are trying to do is make it more … measurable for the advertisers, and enforce disclosure in a uniform manner.”
To take part in the service, it’s as simple as signing up with your Twitter account and being matched with advertisers that want to pay for tweets. Obviously, the more ‘followers’ you have on Twitter, the more you will be paid. This is especially handy for ‘web-celebs’ and celebrity clients who typically have extraordinary numbers of followers.
It is as easy as 1-2-3. After choosing bids to accept, the most you will ever have to do is write the tweet, though often the advertisers mandate them to begin with. The flexibility of Sponsored Tweets is actually really impressive, as you can define your charge per tweet, charge per click (conversion), set your content rating (not all tweets are PG), define your ad unit preferences, add keywords, and set up notification settings. There is such a thing as easy money!
